VH1 admits non-famous people into 'Rehab with Dr. Drew'
The cable network has ordered eight episodes of what it's now calling "Rehab with Dr. Drew" to premiere in the summer. The show will follow a group of young adults as they enter the Pasadena Recovery Center to go through treatment for addiction.
"I'm so excited to once again have the opportunity to educate viewers about the deadly disease of addiction," Dr. Drew Pinsky says. "It is my sincere hope that this show will encourage people who are struggling to seek the help."
VH1 says "Celebrity Rehab" led "many viewers" to contact the network in search of help, so it wanted to reach out to some of those people.
"We feel this expanded format will hold up a mirror to our core audience and hopefully give them some new insight to this disease that touches almost everyone -- whether they are struggling with addiction themselves or know someone who is," says Jeff Olde, VH1's head of original programming.
