HBO announced on Thursday (June 13) that the freshman news magazine series was renewed for a 12-episode second season, set to debut in 2014. Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, made the announcement, saying, "VICE's fearless, irreverent style of news coverage has produced a uniquely provocative show. We look forward to more of their groundbreaking reporting in season two."

Host and creator Shane Smith, who also founded the media company of the same name, notes, "I honestly don't think there is another network in the world that would have given us the opportunity and support that HBO did over the last year. We learned a lot over the course of shooting season one, and are insanely excited over our story selection for season two. Now that our various parasites, hernias and virulent rashes have been treated, we are ready in mind and in body to go out there and get the gold."

The season finale, devoted entirely to the show's recent news-making trip to North Korea, airs Friday at 11 p.m. ET.
