VIDEO: 'Parenthood' gets updated for NBC
NBC already tried to turn the 1989 movie "Parenthood" into a TV show once before, and it didn't work all that well: A 1990 series lasted only a couple of months.
Nineteen years after that, the network is giving the idea another shot, and we'll say this: The talent assembled is impressive. "Friday Night Lights" showrunner Jason Katims wrote the pilot script for a cast that includes Peter Krause, Erika Christensen, Maura Tierney, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter and Craig T. Nelson.
Like the movie on which it's based, "Parenthood" looks like it will be a mix of comedy and drama as four siblings struggle with raising their own kids, dealing with their folks (Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia) and alternately lean on and annoy each other.
Here's a preview of the show, along with executive producer Ron Howard (who directed the '89 film) talking about it.
