'View' this: CBS greenlights talk show with Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert
The network has picked up a daytime show for the fall that will feature the likes of Sara Gilbert (who also developed the show), "Early Show" anchor/"Big Brother" host Julie Chen and Sharon Osbourne, among others. The show will "examine topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of mothers," the network says.
It will also serve as the replacement for the canceled soap opera "As the World Turns," which leaves the air in September after 54 years.
Along with Gilbert ("Roseanne," "The Big Bang Theory"), Chen and Osbourne, the currently untitled show will also star Leah Remini ("The King of Queens"), Holly Robinson Peete ("For Your Love") and Marissa Jaret Winokur ("Hairspray").
"We were looking for a new format that would speak to the core [daytime] audience but also have the topical and entertainment value to go even broader," says Barbara Bloom, CBS' head of daytime. "This panel is not a bashful bunch; they are outspoken on any issue you put on the table. It promises to be an hour of television with timely discussions, unfiltered opinions and a lot of personality."
Gilbert and John Redmann ("The Tyra Banks Show") will executive produce the new show.
