VMAs 2014: Lorde wins Best Rock Video for 'Royals,' which isn't a rock song

It's a weird time to be a rock musician. Up against acts like The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys and Linkin Park, Lorde was awarded Best Rock Video at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards for her song "Royals."

You might be a little confused, since "Royals" isn't a rock song. There you have it, though. At least Lorde was rock and roll enough to swear during her acceptance speech. She immediately apologized for it though, which is so not rock.

In defense of "Royals," the song was also awarded Top Rock Song at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. However, even Lorde seemed confused by that as you can see in the GIF below. Better luck next year, actual rock bands.
