'Walking Dead': Will budget cuts hobble season 2?

the-walking-dead-102-steven-yeun-andrew-lincoln-320.jpgCould the second season of AMC's new zombie hit, "The Walking Dead," be in jeopardy? Well, not necessarily -- but there may be a few less undead roaming the streets of Georgia if the cable channel goes ahead with plans to slash the show's budget.

Writer-producer Frank Darabont recently talked about his show's budget at a Hollywood Reporter roundtable, saying it was in danger of being cut.

"Creatively, I have no complaints thus far," Darabont says. "But I believe if they do move ahead with what they're talking about, it will affect the show creatively... in a negative way. Which just strikes me as odd. If you have an asset, why would you punish it?"

In other "Walking Dead" news, three new characters have reportedly been added for the show's second season: Hershel, a veterinarian whose farm becomes something of a home base for our gang of zombie evaders; Hershel's horse-riding daughter, Maggie; and Otis the ranch hand -- who may do something that doesn't quite endear him to his fellow survivors.
