'Warm Bodies' leads Super Bowl weekend at the box office

warm-bodies-box-office.jpgThe zombie love story "Warm Bodies" warmed up an otherwise dismal weekend at the box office, easily taking the top spot over last week's lead, "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters."

"Warm Bodies" earned an estimated $20 million in its first weekend, more than double the $9.2 million for "Hansel & Gretel." The weekend's other wide release, Sylvester Stallone's "Bullet to the Head," bombed, making only $4.5 million, per studio estimates.

Several Oscar contenders had fairly solid weekends. "Silver Linings Playbook" earned $8.1 million to finish third for the weekend. "Zero Dark Thirty," "Django Unchained," "Les Miserables" and "Lincoln" all finished in the Top 10 as well, while "Argo" was 11th.

Overall, though, the box office was down 27 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Chronicle" and "The Woman in Black" each made more than $20 million.
