President Barack Obama may be an ardent fan of "House of Cards," but that doesn't mean he thinks it's anything like his life in Washington.

During a surprise appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Thursday (March 20) via live shot from the White House, his first since taking office, the Commander-in Chief was asked whether he watches the Netflix hit or that other D.C.-set series on everyone's DVR (aka "Scandal").

"You know, I watch 'House of Cards.' I haven't seen 'Scandal' yet, but Michelle has watched 'Scandal,'" he says. "I have to tell you, life in Washington is a little more boring than displayed on the screen."

After admitting that most of his days "wouldn't make very good television," Ellen thinks she lands on the missing component. You'll have to watch above to learn what it is.

During the interview, Ellen also checks how the president is doing while Michelle is out of town, while he takes her to task for breaking his Twitter record with her Oscars selfie. Check out those clips below.
