Watch 'The Office's' Steve Carell audition for 'Anchorman'

Before his run on "The Office" as dense and lovable Dunder Mifflin boss Michael Scott, Steve Carell was beloved by fans for his similarly simple character: Brick Tamland in "Anchorman." With the movie's sequel, "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," only weeks away from its release, Paramount Pictures decided to resurrect Carell's audition tape.

After watching it, it's no wonder that Carell got the gig. This scene isn't in the movie, but there is a similar one where Brick ends up eating a "chocolate covered squirrel." Here he eats a used coffee filter with cigarette butts on it that he thought was a falafel hot dog with cinnamon and bacon on top. When Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy notes there's no such thing, Carell laughs until he turns so purple he looks like his head is about to pop off.

"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" comes out in theaters on Dec. 18. This audition tape comes from "Anchorman: The 'Rich Mahogany' Edition" Blu-ray, which hit theaters today. To continue this look down memory lane, here are our five best Brick one-liners:

5. "Where'd you get your clothes ... from the ... toilet store?"
4. "There were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident."
3. "I read somewhere their periods attract bears. Bears can smell the menstruation."
2. "I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party."
1. "I love lamp."
