'We don't sell junk food,' McDonald's CEO tells little girl

During the company's annual shareholders meeting, held Thursday (May 23), Don Thompson was asked by a nine-year-old girl named Hannah why the venerable fast food chain didn't offer healthier meal options for kids.

"We don't sell junk food, Hannah," Thompson replied. "My kids also eat McDonald's ... I love to cook, we cook a lot of foods and veggies at home. We serve a lot of foods and veggies at McDonald's and are trying to sell even more with the apples that we introduced into the Happy Meal..."

During the same meeting, Thompson was asked by a doctor to stop marketing to children, prompting the CEO to further defend the company's product.

"We provide high quality food. We always have; it's real beef, it's real chicken, it's real tomatoes, real lettuce, real fruit, real smoothies, real dairy, real eggs, and we do it in a way that is also affordable," he said.

Do you think McDonald's is junk food?
