'Wilfred' renewed: Elijah Wood comedy gets third season from FXAdd to Favorites | Wilfred
The quirky half-hour comedy stars Elijah Wood as a troubled attorney who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his neighbor's dog, Wilfred, played by Jason Gann.
For Ryan (Wood), Wilfred really is this man's best friend -- a walking, talking, pot-smoking Australian with a stuffed animal fetish dressed in a dog costume. Unfortunately, everyone else sees Wilfred as a cute canine.
David Zuckerman, who adapted the series from the Australian original co-created by and starring Gann as the titular character, is stepping down as showrunner. "Wilfred" writers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné will share executive producing and showrunning duties in Season 3.
"As [network president] John (Landgraf) said at the summer TCA, it was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out," said Nick Grad, FX's executive vice president of original programming in a statement. "David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving 'Wilfred' for FX. It was his decision to step down from the showrunner's post, but we're very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they'll do a great job."
Zuckerman will remain on "Wilfred" as executive producer.
