Wilmer Valderrama, 'Outlaw Country,' David Strathairn and more
According to Deadline, Wilmer Valderrama, best known for his portrayal of foreign exchange student Fez on "That '70s Show," has inked a development deal with 20th Century Fox TV. He will develop, executive producer and star in a series project for the studio, but there are no details on the series yet.
Deadline is also reporting that Haley Bennett ("Marley & Me") and Luke Grimes ("Brothers & Sisters") have been cast in the new FX drama "Outlaw Country." Bennett will play Annabel Lee, a country singer dealing with her overbearing mother ( Mary Steenburgen) and Grimes is Eli Larkin, an outlaw trying to leave his life of crime behind in order to help his siblings.
Over on Syfy, "Alphas" is welcoming David Strathairn as Dr. Leigh Rosen, the eccentric leader of the Alpha team. "Alphas" follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. Using physical feats and uniquely advanced mental abilities, this unlikely team takes the law into their own hands and uncovers what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve.
And finally, "The Big C" has cast cancer patient Cathy's (Laura Linney) oncologist. Deadline is reporting that Reid Scott, best known for his role on TBS' "My Boys." His role of the intelligent but inexperienced doctor will not conflict with "My Boys," should that show be renewed by TBS, because the oncologist is only recurring and not a regular.
