Woman, 104, lies about age to get on Facebook
Joseph and her granddaughter tell WDIV-Detroit that when they went to sign Marguerite up for Facebook, they kept trying to select 1908 as the year of her birth, but the menu kept changing it to 1928. So she went with 1910, the oldest date the site would let her select.
"Every time I tried to change the settings to the right year, Facebook always came back with an unknown error message and would send us right back to a year she wasn't born in," says granddaughter Gail Marlow. "I would love to see her real age on Facebook, I mean in April she's going to be 105. It's special."
Though legally blind, each day Gail reads and responds to all of her grandmother's Facebook messages for her. Marguerite uses the social media site to keep in touch with family members she does not live near.
As for the glitch on Facebook, the site has released a statement:
"We've recently discovered an issue whereby some Facebook users may be unable to enter a birthday before 1910. We are working on a fix for this and we apologize for the inconvenience."
We'd have to imagine they never pictured needing to be able to enter a birth date prior to 1910.
