It's been a month since "Wrestlemania 30" and WWE is ready to move forward with their year, onto "Extreme Rules." The annual show is littered with street fights, falls count anywhere matches and the mysterious "Extreme Rules" match ... Which is more or less a street fight.
Though Daniel Bryan became WWE World Heavyweight Champion at "Wrestlemania," he has fallen into second position on the card. Instead, it looks like the main event will feature the reunited Evolution facing off against The Shield, in a battle of generations.
It's an interesting show for a few reasons, but that match is going to be one of the most important, in terms of the company's future. Check out Zap2it's "Extreme Rules" predictions below and see if you agree.
The Shield vs. Evolution
Since reuniting, Evolution has torn through The Shield repeatedly. It's a strange sight since the Hounds of Justice has always gotten the upper hand. However, come "Extreme Rules," it makes the most sense for The Shield to get the win. These guys are the future of wrestling and their opponents are not. Triple H is a part-time wrestler who is moving closer and closer to retiring, while Batista will have to leave sometime soon to begin the task of promoting "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Beyond that, the Randy Orton as WWE World Heavyweight Champion experiment didn't pay off because he was portrayed as weak, time and time again. This is The Shield's chance to shine and the deserve it after being one of the workhorse acts of the last two years.
Prediction: The Shield
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an Extreme Rules match
This has been a decently-built feud, focused on the "monster" version of Kane returning ... again. Still, no one expects Daniel Bryan to lose the title a month after winning it to Kane. As good as Kane can be, and at his best he's pretty great, he's not a world title holder. He's done if a couple times for short bursts, but he's just not "the guy."
Prediction: Daniel Bryan
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt in a steel cage match
After the debacle known as their "Wrestlemania" match, where John Cena won and gained absolutely nothing from it but did damage to Bray Wyatt, they meet again. If Wyatt loses to Cena again, it's a clear message that WWE isn't ready to move to the future. So much of this card is based around the old guard vs. the new generation.
Cena is still the most popular face in WWE and losing here won't change that one bit. However, a victory over Cena can do wonders for Wyatt and give him all kinds of things to talk about for the foreseeable future. If WWE wants him to be the master heel he can become, Wyat needs the win.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt
Bonus prediction: John Cena will tease another heel turn and not follow through.
Big E. vs. Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship
Big E. hasn't been doing much lately and the Intercontinental Championship is doing him no favors. After winning a tournament for a title shot, Bad News Barrett continues to be a fan favorite, even if he's a bad guy. That should make things easy to figure out. There's a lot that can be done with Big E., but his babyface character just doesn't isn't working. So why not give the title to a talker?
Prediction: Bad News Barrett
Paige vs. Tamina Snuka for the Diva's Championship
Why even bother arguing this one? It's obvious that WWE has found something special in the NXT rookie-turned Diva's Champion Paige. They aren't going to take the title off of her this quick. Especially, before A.J. Lee comes back to get her rematch.
Alexander Rusev vs. R-Truth and Xavier Woods
There's really no reason for this match to be on the pay per view. This isn't even really pre-show material. It'll give Alexander Rusev a spot on the show, but he's been fighting these two for weeks individually. There's no one who is paying simply to see what is, essentially, a jobber match.
Prediction: Alexander Rusev
Cesaro vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Swagger
If everything works out just right, this could be the sleeper hit of the night. Cesaro is going to be a huge star in WWE and he has the talent to back it up. Rob Van Dam knows how to get the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands. Jack Swagger is no slouch either and has built a great heel character. Throw Zeb Coulter and Paul Heyman in on the outside and this could be a wonderful recipe.
Let's hope that they're given enough time to build a great match that hits all the right notes. Of the three, Cesaro is the one on the rise. This is the next step to a higher level for him.
El Torito vs. Hornswoggle in a "WeeLC" match
Who knows what this match entails, what the rules are or why it's even happening. Rather than rehashing 3MB vs. Los Matadores once again, their sidekicks are getting the pre-show honors.
The younger audience loves El Torito and Hornswoggle, so the live reaction should be good. This will end up being a comedy match, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. A well-done comedic wrestling match can be endlessly entertaining. What remains to be seen is if those involved can pull that off.
Seeing as 3MB rarely wins anything, getting their first victory in recent memory on the last "Raw," El Torito should end up with the win.
Prediction: El Torito
"WWE Extreme Rules" is live Sunday, May 4, at 8 p.m. ET on pay per view and the WWE Network.
