'X-Men: Days of Future Past': Bryan Singer announces return of Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore
Singer tweeted his roughly 25,000 followers the news unexpectedly on Saturday (Jan. 26). The casting tweet read:
"Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysofFuturePast - thank you @BrettRatner for letting them live!"
If you know anything at all about the "X-Men" film series, you may be a little confused here. After all, Rogue, Iceman and Kitty Pryde -- the characters played by Paquin, Page and Ashmore, respectively --were born long after the events presumed to be a part of "Days of Future Past."
That's why we have things like time travel. It makes casting so much more fun!
Still, neither Bryan Singer nor the film's director, Brett Ratner, has confirmed much about the film's plot. Scheduled to begin production this month, "First Class" stars Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to return and continue their characters. Singer also confirmed that Hugh Jackman would appear to play the role of Wolverine in the new series. Although there are rumors indicating the participation of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen (who played Dr. Charles Xavier and Magneto in the original "X-Men" films), neither actor has confirmed.
It's possible that we may have to wait until the film is released in July, 2014 before we understand how all of this fits together. In the meantime, let the theorizing begin!
