'X-Men: Days of Future Past': Shawn Ashmore 'excited' Bryan Singer returned

Less than a month after the finale airs, Ashmore will make his way back to the big screen for the highly-anticipated "X-Men: Days of Future Past" blockbuster, which is due in theaters on May 23.

Ashmore plays Bobby Drake, a.k.a. Iceman, who showed up in the first three movies, and when Zap2it caught up with the actor to talk "The Following," we couldn't help but squeeze in a few "X-Men" questions too.

While Ashmore couldn't reveal much about the plot of the movie (who wants to be spoiled, anyway?), he had nothing but nice things to say about director Bryan Singer, who landed in headlines on Wednesday (April 16) for allegedly sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy in 1999 (Disclaimer: Zap2it spoke with Ashmore before the allegations against Singer went public).

"Bryan Singer is back at the helm of the movie and it's going to be amazing for all of us, as actors or audience members, because he has such a love and dedication to this franchise and everything in this movie," Ashmore tells Zap2it. "I'm excited to see how it all turned out."

Ashmore promises that fans won't be disappointed with the new installment to the "X-Men" franchise.

"I can honestly say that this movie is going to be huge," Ashmore teases. "I just finished doing some re-shoots with some of the actors I got to work with like Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, and I had a great time. There are a lot of things that I think people have been wanting to see from 'Days of Future Past' and over the first three 'X-Men' films that I have been in, like these Sentinels, these giant robots that are hunting down the X-Men."

He continues, "The stakes are so high in this movie. It's literally life and death so there are these huge thrills, some amazing, epic battle sequences and characters that people have been wanting to see for a very long time. It's going to be exciting."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" hits theaters May 23.
