'X Factor': Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid continue to spar over DrewAdd to Favorites | The X Factor
The 14-year-old from Arizona, whose full name is Drew Ryniewicz, has drawn frequent criticism from Reid for not mixing up her style. His most recent statements came after her performance of the Demi Lovato hit "Skyscraper" on Nov. 22. It was at that point Reid called the song "so old...you don't do age-appropriate music." This surprised many given the fact that Lovato is only 19.
This comment not only prompted a strongly-worded explanation from Drew but a harsh rebuke from her mentor, Simon Cowell.
During the broadcast, Cowell told Reid, "I'm sick to death of your pointless, stupid criticism." He continued after the show saying Reid's comments were "ignorant...you couldn't have found a younger song."
The feud between the two mega-producers has been brewing for weeks. After Drew's Nov. 9 performance of "Fix You" by Coldplay, Reid ripped the 14-year-old.
"I don't know if that was a new song, or the same one from last week...I need some diversity from you. I need to see you do something different," Reid said.
While Cowell had mostly held his tongue on the matter, it was after Reid's most recent comments that Cowell had finally had enough.
"It's been ongoing, his criticism of her [Drew]," Cowell says. "She did such a good job...and because he criticized her for that, I thought I had to defend her."
Ryniewicz is as polite as she can be on the matter.
"I always take the criticism that I get into consideration...I really want to stick to a steady genre," she says.
Despite all the back and forth, Cowell couldn't be happier with Reid on the singing competition. He commends Reid for his willingness to take a position, even if it's something Cowell disagrees with.
"That's why I want to work with L.A. I like people who are passionate, and actually if I'm comfortable with someone, I'll argue with them,' Cowell says.
Don't expect the arguments to stop any time soon.
