'X Factor's' Nicole Scherzinger on Rachel Crow: 'I let her down'
The judge and former reality show contestant voted to send 13-year-old Rachel Crow home, thereby creating a 2-2 deadlock on the panel. This left it up to the public, who ultimately kept Marcus Canty for another week. This result dropped Crow to her knees and sent a sobbing Scherzinger to the dressing room amidst a chorus of boos.
But to hear Scherzinger explain her logic, it was simply a way to bring a dignified end to Canty's run on the show. It was an effort that backfired.
"This is [Canty's] third time in the bottom. And Rachel's never been in the bottom," Scherzinger says. "So the probability was that America would have sent Marcus home."
Scherzinger then explains her emotional response when the total votes saved Canty and gave Crow the hook.
"I feel like when I saw that look on [Crow's] face that I let her down, like I dropped her," she says. "Like I could have been holding on and I dropped her."
Crow, now out of the singing competition, holds no ill will toward Scherzinger for her decision.
"She's sorry. I don't know why she's sorry, but I saw her...and she was like 'I'm so sorry, I was not expecting that,'" Crow says.
Scherzinger remain comfortable in her decision regardless of the backlash she experience from the audience and from fans on social media sites.
"If I were to do it all over again, I would have done the same thing. Because how did I know?" she says.
