Yahoo officially closes Tumblr acquisition with animated GIF

The day has finally come. After announcing in May that they would be buying the blogging website, Yahoo has officially closed the deal and are the new owners of Tumblr.

The announce was made, of course, on Yahoo's Tumblr blog. In a statement from Yahoo CEO Marissa Miller, she says the purchase is official and reiterates that the website will be fun as a separate business.

Yahoo has been very open to the idea that Tumblr operates differently than they do, and have been successful doing it. Miller even addressed content that isn't "brand safe" for Yahoo, as Tumblr has a pretty big porn community, saying, "I think the richness and breadth of content available on Tumblr -- even though it may not be as brand safe as what's on our site -- is what's really exciting and allows us to reach even more users."

As part of the deal closing, Yahoo has debuted new Tumblr accounts for several of their other services, including search and email. What those need blogging accounts for remains a mystery.
