'Desperate' Doctor Tunes Into 'News'

Jay Harrington, who played "Desperate Housewives" recurring character Dr. Ron McCready, is changing professions.

The actor is set to star in ABC's comedy pilot "The News," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Harrington will play a Phoenix TV news reporter who likes to shake things up.

Harrington was also on "The Inside," "Summerland" and the short-lived American version of "Coupling."

In other ABC news, the network has also hired Faith Ford ("Hope & Faith," "Murphy Brown") and Laura Harris for two other pilots.

Ford has joined "Carpoolers" as the wife of one of four men who carpool to work.

Harris joins Angie Harmon, Paula Newsome and Aubrey Dollar as one of the four leads in the drama pilot "Women's Murder Club," which revolves around four girlfriends who solve murder cases.

Harris has had recurring roles on "24" and "Dead Like Me," and her film credits include "The Faculty" and "A Mighty Wind."
