Morgan Freeman Plans Mandela Film

Morgan Freeman is ready to transition from playing God to playing Nelson Mandela.

According to Variety, Freeman is expected to produce and star in an independently financed adaptation of John Carlin's "The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed the World."

We somehow suspect that they won't use the full title.

Carlin's book focuses on the 1995 Rugby World Cup. South Africa hosted the event early in Mandela's tenure as the nation's president and used it to try to heal some of the country's racial strife.

Anthony Peckham ("Don't Say a Word") adapted.

Freeman and his Revelations Entertainment partner Lori McCreary met with Mandela last year to discuss the project. The Revelations duo will produce along with Mace Neufeld.

Freeman does his second tour of duty as God in this weekend's sequel "Evan Almighty." His upcoming projects include "The Feast of Love," "Gone, Baby, Gone" and "The Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson.
