Sutherland's Sci Fi 'Phenomenon'

Kiefer Sutherland will expand his creative duties beyond "24."

The actor will executive produce the two-hour pilot "Phenomenon," for which the Sci Fi Channel has ordered a script. Maggie Murphy, President of Sutherland's production company, East Side Entertainment, will also serve as executive producer.

The show revolves around a mysterious young female prodigy who leads a crack team of experts in investigating odd and supernatural anomalies of nature.

"In 'Phenomenon' ordinary people have their assumptions about the natural world -- their very belief systems -- completely shattered when they are confronted by unsettling, unexplained phenomena," says Mark Stern, the channel's Executive Vice President, Programming. "Kiefer and Maggie will lend their top-notch creative skills as executive producers to create a viewing experience as intriguing and surreal as the title would suggest."

Brad Follmer and Lauren Iungerich ("Superhero Summer Camp," "The Book Club") will serve as the project's writers. They've previously collaborated on television pilots such as "Conflict of Interest," "Malpractice" and "Dumb Girls" for the CW.

Sutherland can currently be seen as Jack Bauer, a government agent taxed with saving the world in a single day several times over on FOX's "24," for which he also serves as an executive producer. His film credits include "The Lost Boys," "Young Guns," "A Time to Kill," "A Few Good Men" and "The Sentinel."
