Dave Matthews Goes Bad for 'Lake City'

Dave Matthews will take a dark turn in "Lake City," an indie family drama also set to star Troy Garity and Oscar winner Sissy Spacek.

Perry Moore and Hunter Hill are writing and directing the film, which focuses on an estranged mother and son (Spacek and Garity) who have to come together to save their home. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthews will play the villain of the piece, whatever that means.

The trade also notes that the South Africa-born musician will be credited as "David Matthews" for the project.

"Lake City" begins production next week in Virginia.

Acting credits for Matthews include "Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Because of Winn-Dixie."

In addition to her Oscar win for "Coal Miner's Daughter," Spacek has five other Academy nods, going back as far as "Carrie" and coming as recently as for 2001's "In the Bedroom." She was most recently seen in "An American Haunting."

Garity's film work ranges from the "Barbershop" films to "After the Sunset," though he's still probably best known as Jane Fonda's son.
