'Super' Man 'Dresses' for Heigl Rom-Com

In "Superman Returns," he vied with the Man of Steel to get the girl, but in the upcoming "27 Dresses," James Marsden will let the women compete for his heart.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marsden will play the male lead in "27 Dresses," a romantic comedy built as a starring vehicle for "Grey's Anatomy" co-star Katherine Heigl.

In addition, the trade paper reports that Malin Akerman ("Entourage") has also signed on for the pic, which will begin production in May with Anne Fletcher ("Step Up") directing.

The plot revolves around a perpetual bridesmaid (Heigl) whose frustrations peak when she has to be the bridesmaid for her sister (Akerman). Naturally, the sister's groom-to-be (Marsden) is the bridesmaid's perfect man and hilarity ensues.

Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") wrote "27 Dresses," which will be produced for Fox 2000.

Marsden played Richard White in last summer's "Superman Returns" and also made his third turn as Cyclops in "X-Men: The Last Stand." His upcoming credits include "Hairspray" and "Enchanted."
