New Kirk and Bones Sign For 'Star Trek'

With his Young Captain Kirk and Young Leonard "Bones" McCoy now in place, J.J. Abrams has staffed the Enterprise for his new "Star Trek" film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Karl Urban has signed on to play Bones, and after weeks of circling, Chris Pine has finally closed his deal to play Kirk.

Pine and Urban cap off an exhausting run of casting for the "Star Trek" origin story, which will also feature Zachary Quinto as Young Spock, Zoe Saldana as Young Uhura, John Cho as Young Sulu, Simon Pegg as Young Scotty and Anton Yelchin as Young Chekov.

Eric Bana was also previously announced as the villainous Nero. At least one additional "grown-up" role remains uncast.

Pine chose to follow in William Shatner's footsteps rather than starring opposite George Clooney in Joe Carnahan's "White Jazz." With Abrams expected to go into production from November through March, the "Just My Luck" star couldn't do both high profile features.

Urban, who steps into the role originated by DeForest Kelly, is familiar from his role as Eomer in the "Lord of the Rings" films, as well as "The Bourne Supremacy," "Doom" and "Pathfinder."
