FOX Is 'Smarter' Tuesday

As usual, a whole bunch of people watched "American Idol" Tuesday. Most of them stuck around for the premiere of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?," giving FOX another win on the night.

FOX averaged a 16.6 rating/25 share in primetime. CBS was the best of the rest with an 8.4/13. NBC, 6.0/10, came in third, and ABC took fourth with a 4.7/7. The CW wound up with a 2.2/3.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 11.9 rating was miles ahead of everyone else. CBS finished second in the demo at 3.4, followed by NBC at 3.0. ABC's 2.2 was good for fourth, topping The CW's 1.5.

The first hour of "American Idol" scored a 16.5/25 for FOX at 8 p.m. CBS' "NCIS" assumed its customary second position with a 10.3/15. "Dateline" was third for NBC, beating out an "America's Funniest Home Videos" rerun, 3.5/5, on ABC. "Gilmore Girls" earned a 2.8/4 for The CW.

The conclusion of "Idol," 18.5/27, and the premiere of "Are You Smarter," 14.8/22, kept FOX comfortably in the lead at 9 p.m. "The Unit," 8.1/12, kept CBS in second, and NBC held onto third with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 6.4/10. "Primetime: The Outsiders" was fourth for ABC, while "Veronica Mars" delivered a 1.7/3 for The CW.

NBC grabbed the lead at 10 p.m. with "Law & Order: SVU," 7.9/13. A "Criminal Minds" rerun, 6.9/11, on CBS tied for second with ABC's special "Bob Woodruff: To Iraq and Back."
