Meryl Streep To Play Julia Child

In one of those potentially brilliant pairings of actor and role, Meryl Streep is set to play master chef Julia Child in a Columbia comedy.

Nora Ephron is attached to write and direct "Julie & Julia," which will feature Streep as Child and Oscar nominee Amy Adams as Julie Powell, author of "Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen."

Powell's book focused on a one-year project to cook all 524 recipes in "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Powell, a frustrated temp at the time, blogged on her quest.

Given the timeframe of Powell's cooking, it's unclear if Streep's Child will be a younger, fantasy version of the legendarily gregarious chef. Child died in 2004.

According to Variety, production on "Julie & Julia" could begin production sometime in 2008.

An Oscar nominee this year for "The Devil Wears Prada," Streep has most recently been seen in "Evening" and "Rendition," with "Lions for Lambs" on tap for later in the fall.

"Junebug" star Adams is stirring up positive buzz for "Enchanted" and "Charlie Wilson's War," both due for release before the end of the year.
