Will Smith Peeks at 'Voyeur'

Columbia Pictures has snagged the thriller "Le Voyeur" for Will Smith's busy Overbrook Entertainment shingle.

Based on the 1955 novel by Alain Robb-Grillet, "Le Voyeur" focuses on a man who returns to the Caribbean island where he was bored and immediately becomes embroiled in a murder investigation.

Massy Tadjedin wrote the original draft of the script, which has been floating around since 2002, when it was acquired by Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade paper offers no information as to whether "Le Voyeur" is being developed as a potential starring vehicle for the very busy Smith.

Nominated earlier this week for his second Oscar, the "Pursuit of Happyness" star will follow "I Am Legend" with the superhero drama "Tonight He Comes."

Previous production credits for Smith and his Overbrook partner James Lassiter include "Hitch" and "ATL."
