Pregnancy is in its second trimester

The time for being coy is at an end for Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz.

The newlyweds have finally confirmed that they are expecting their first child.

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child," they wrote on Wentz's social networking site, FriendsorEnemies.com. "This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

The post is signed "Pete and Ashlee Wentz."

The bride changed her name to Ashlee Wentz after her marriage, but will go by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz professionally.

The couple first knew each other as friends since they were both dating other people. They began seeing each other in late 2006 and announced their engagement in April on FriendsorEnemies. At the time, the unexpected news prompted media to speculate that the "Pieces of Me" singer was pregnant. They wed in Los Angeles on May 17.
