Bill Murray's Wife Cites Abuse in Divorce Filing
Jennifer Butler has been married to the comedian for nearly 11 years
Once again, Hollywood stardom does not bring marital happiness.Bill Murray's wife, Jennifer Butler Murray, filed for divorce on May 12 in a Charleston, South Carolina family court, reports the Charleston Post & Courier.
In the documents, she accuses the comedian of "adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addictions and frequent abandonment."
The filing alleges that Murray physically abused his wife on more than one occasion during the marriage and even once "hit his wife in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her.'"
His wife is also seeking a restraining order barring him from her $3.65 million Sullivan's Island home and is asking the court to determine if their premarital agreement is valid and enforceable.
The prenup stipulates that if either spouse files for divorce, both parties retain all of their separate property, waive any right to alimony or support and maintain responsibilities for their children. But if the marriage is dissolved and the prenup is made a part of the order, Murray must pay her $7 million, according to a copy of the agreement accompanying the complaint.
The couple married on July 4, 1997 and have four sons: Caleb, Jackson, Cooper and Lincoln. Murray was previously married to Margaret "Mickey" Kelly before divorcing in 1994. He has two other sons from that marriage.
Murray, 57, last appeared in "The Darjeeling Limited" and voiced the fat cat in "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties." He next makes an appearance in "Get Smart," in theaters June 20, and the upcoming "City of Ember."
