Jamie Spears will handle her personal and business affairs indefinitely

Out-of-control Britney Spears won't have to shoulder all her responsibilities alone.

The singer's dad Jamie Spears will retain control over her personal and business affairs, a Los Angeles judge ruled Tuesday (Oct. 28), according to TMZ.com.

The paternal Spears was previously granted temporary conservatorship in February, but was supposed to give it up on Dec. 31. The judge decided to make it permanent for an indefinite period of time after lawyers put in a request.

After a couple years of running amok -- during which Britney Spears notoriously shaved her head and went to rehab -- she was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation in February. Since then, her life has turned around: making a guest appearance on "How I Met Your Mother," releasing the single "Womanizer," reaching a custody settlment with ex-hubby Kevin Federline, winning a whopping three MTV moon men awards, working on a new album and gearing up for a world tour.

There's speculation that consenting to the extended conservatorship -- which she can ask to be lifted later -- will make it easier for Spears to regain custody of her sons with Federline: Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden James, 2.

So it appears that legally, things are looking up for the pop princess. Just last week she avoided adding to her criminal record when a jury acquitted her of driving without a California license in 2007.
