George Takei has boldly gone into matrimony.

The " Star Trek" actor has finally wed his longtime partner, Brad Altman, in a Buddhist ceremony in downtown Los Angeles Sunday, reports People.

"All I can remember is what the priest said," Takei says. "That this moment will never happen again. It's something to savor."

The ceremony included the exchange of vows, sipping sake from red lacquer cups and a kimono-wearing koto player. For "Trek" co-stars Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig, Uhura and Chekov, were the maid of honor and best man.

"I was fighting back the tears," says Nichols. "But they came oozing out anyway. I'm so happy that they're both able to legally proclaim their commitment to one another after spending the past 21 years together."

The wedding party followed a Scottish bagpiper to the reception grounds at the Japanese American National Museum.

In May, the California Supreme Court lifted a ban on gay marriage, making it constitutional for same-sex couples to get hitched in the state. Takei announced his intention to wed soon afterwards on his personal website. Takei, 71, and Altman, 54, are among the hundreds of gay couple who have taken the marital plunge. Among them were talk show host Ellen Degeneres and actress Portia de Rossi, who tied the knot in Beverly Hills in August.

Takei announced his homosexuality in October 2005. He's best knowon for playing Sulu on "Star Trek" and more recently appeared on NBC's hit drama "Heroes" as the father of Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), the hero who can bend space and time.
