Howard Stern Toilets Shut Down for Public Sex
The New Jersey rest stop is blocked off to the public
The notorious Howard Stern Rest Stop along the Jersey interstate remains vacant but unavailable after officials allegedly discovered motorists were using the bathrooms for sex romps, reports Page Six.
The rest stop, which former Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman named for the shock jock in 1995, was initially locked and closed last year, while portable toilets were installed outside the pit stop. This move, however, did not deter those seeking their thrills, so now the portables are gone and a guardrail blocks off the entire parking area.
State officials aren't blaming the alleged risque activities, but the recession for the closure.
"Unfortunately, it's a sign of the economic times," says a spokesperson for the New Jersey Transportation office. "The cost of maintaining it was too much."
Stern, 54, recently married model Beth Ostrosky, 36, this month in New York.
