Actor was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Tennessee

Morgan Freeman, who developed Batman's car in "The Dark Knight," has been in an accident involving his own vehicle.

The Oscar winner has been taken to the hospital after a car wreck in Mississippi Sunday night (Aug. 3), reports TMZ.com.

According to reports, the vehicle in which Freeman and a female passenger were riding flipped over several times north of Ruleville at around 11:30 p.m. They were both rescued by using the "jaws of life" on the car, and Freeman was said to be able to speak before being airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

The condition of Freeman and the female passenger are not known. Thus far, alcohol is not suspected as the cause of the accident.

Freeman lives in Charleston, Mississippi. He also owns Madidi, a fine dining restaurant, and the Ground Zero blues club in the state.

The actor, 71, currently stars opposite Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight" as Wayne Enterprise's technical genius/inventor Lucius Fox. He was last seen in "Wanted," alongside Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.
