Dead Paula Abdul Stalker a Former 'American Idol' Wannabe?
Paula Goodspeed's car was seen near Paula Abdul's house several times previously
The dead woman is believed to be Paula Goodspeed, a woman who tried out for the fifth season of "American Idol" and was a big fan of Abdul, reports TMZ.com.
The body was found dead in a car near Abdul's Sherman Oaks home off of Beverly Ridge Drive at about 6 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 11). The woman was familiar to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department's threat management unit, which investigates stalking cases. The death is being investigated as a possible suicide from an alleged drug overdose.
Abdul told "Extra," "I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family."
Goodspeed, a woman in her 30s, auditioned for the show in 2006 and revealed her love for the "Opposites Attract" performer. As an artist, she made life-sized drawings of Abdul, and her very first picture was of the singer. During the featured clip of Goodspeed at the "Idol" audition, she sang "Proud Mary" for the judges, but was turned down for the show. In her exit interview, she said, "Maybe I was pitchy on a couple of notes ... but it's not over. I'm not going to stop singing."
At that point, host Ryan Seacrest announced "And the love affair is over" in a voiceover.
Goodspeed had a license plate reading "ABL LV" on her car, which was reportedly seen near Abdul's home many times over the past few weeks. A picture of the "Idol" judge also hung from the rearview mirror. On Goodspeed's Myspace page, she referred to Abdul as her "secret crush."
