On the celebrity crime scale, Shia LaBeouf is small potatoes, but he still needs to play by the rules.
The "Transformers" star has a bench warrant out for him when he was a no-show in court Tuesday (March 18), according to TMZ.com.
On Feb. 18, the 21-year-old actor received a ticket in Burbank, Calif., for unlawful smoking on the sidewalk outside the boutique Sky Blue Pink. He was supposed to appear in a Los Angeles courthouse Tuesday morning on the misdemeanor offense, but neither he nor his lawyer showed their faces.
A $1,000 bench warrant was then issued.
Update: LaBeouf's attorney Michael Norris arrived a day late to enter a not guilty plea for his client. The benche warrant was subsequently recalled. A pretrial hearing is set for April 24.
LaBeouf has had a similarly unexciting brush with the law. In November 2007, he appeared intoxicated and refused to leave a Chicago-area Walgreen when requested, which led to the authorities being contacted. He was "very courteous and polite" when he was arrested. Later, he had the misdemeanor charge of trespassing dropped.
LaBeouf first gained fame and acclaim on the Disney Channel's "Even Stevens." His big-screen credits include "Holes," "I, Robot," "The Greatest Game Ever Played," "Disturbia" and the upcoming " Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
