'Monk,' '90210' Actor Found Dead

Stanley Kamel, who is known for his roles on "Monk" and "Beverly Hills, 90210," has died. He was 65.

The actor was found dead of a heart attack in his Hollywood Hills home on Tuesday, April 8 by his longtime agents and friends, Donna Massetti and Marilyn Szatmary.

Kamel can currently be seen as Adrian Monk's psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Kroger, on the USA Network series "Monk." He recently attended the network's upfront party in Los Angeles at Craft restaurant.

"Stanley Kamel's consumate talent and professionalism was only surpassed by his warmth, humor and generosity of spirit," says Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub, who plays Monk. "I will miss him terribly."

USA network also released the following statement: "USA is deeply saddened by the news of Stanley Kamel's passing. Stanley was an amazingly talented and extremely kind man, and an important member of the USA family. He will be sorely missed."

Stanley Kamel was born on January 1, 1943 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers Preparatory School and later began acting in off-Broadway productions.

His television career spans nearly 40 years, appearing on "The Mod Squad," "McMillan & Wife," "Mission: Impossible," "Kojak," "Charlie's Angels," "The Incredible Hulk," "Mork & Mindy," "Barney Miller," "Three's Company," "Knight Rider," "Hill Street Blues," "Mr. Belvedere," "Cagney & Lacey," "Beauty and the Beast," "Murder, She Wrote," "MacGyver," "The Nanny," "Marshall Law," " Melrose Place," "Golden Girls," "7th Heaven," "Six Feet Under" and "General Hospital."

Highlights of his TV career include playing the ruthless father of Rebecca Gayheart on "Beverly Hills, 90210," the sleazy psychiatrist Dr. Graham Lester on "Murder One" and the aformentioned shrink on "Monk."

Kamel also recently was seen on the big screen in "Domino" and "Inland Empire."

He is survived by his brothers Dr. Stephen Kamel and Robert Kamel, five nieces and nephews, and six grand nieces and nephews.
