'Dancing' Champ Indicted on Charges of Conspiracy, Tax Evasion
Helio Castroneves allegedly owes taxes on $5 million in income
The racecar driver and former " Dancing With the Stars" winner was indicted Thursday, Oct. 2 in Miami on charges of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and tax evasion, reports TMZ.com. Castroneves allegedly owes taxes on more than $5 million.
Castroneves, his sister Katiucia and his lawyer Alan Miller were indicted for using "an offshore Panamanian shell corporation, Seven Promotions, to conceal and disguise the true and correct amount of Helio Castroneves' income from the Internal Revenue Service."
In one example, Castroneves received $2 million in salary from a Brazilian trading company and then allegedly tried to "conceal and disguise" his income to make it appear he only received $200,000.
The 33-year-old will be in Miami court on Friday to face the charges, which in total hold a maximum penalty of 35 years in prison if he's convicted.
Castroneves is a two-time Indy 500 winner and became a household name when he won the fifth season of "Dancing With the Stars" with his partner, pro dancer Julianne Hough.
