Before its second year begins on The CW, the update of "Beverly Hills, 90210" comes to video with its freshman year episodes.

Though the basic formula holds to the original version – with siblings (Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds) relocating with their family to Beverly Hills, the father (Rob Estes) being their high-school principal this time – the subplots have more edge than the original show's did.

Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty reprise their Kelly and Brenda roles from the 1990s series; additional stars include Lori Loughlin, Jessica Stroup, Dustin Milligan and AnnaLynne McCord. DVD extras: four "making-of" documentaries; audio commentary by cast members on selected episodes. *** (Not rated: AS, P)
