Another animated movie from the director of the Tim Burton-produced "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is likely to be edgy, too, and Henry Selick delivers again with this tale of a youngster (voice of Dakota Fanning) who enters a world that seems too good to be true.

It is: Behind the seemingly concerned and benevolent figures Coraline encounters is much more sinister intent that she ultimately must vanquish.

The adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel also features Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane ("Deadwood") and Jennifer Saunders in the voice cast; 2-D and 3-D versions of the film are included.

DVD extras: two "making-of" documentaries; audio commentary by Selick and composer Bruno Coulais; deleted scenes; digital copy of the movie. *** ( PG: AS, P) (Also on Blu-ray)
