Ex-heroes in an alternate world – circa 1985 – are targeted for murder, prompting them to use their abilities anew, in "300" director Zack Snyder's lengthy but frequently arresting version of the celebrated graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Billy Crudup has his personal trainer to thank, big-time, for the scenes in which he displays his physique as the literally blue Dr. Manhattan.

Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Jackie Earle Haley, Carla Gugino, Matthew Goode and Jeffrey Dean Morgan also star.
