Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank plays legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart, whose disappearance over the Atlantic Ocean has remained a mystery for seven decades, in director Mira Nair's lavishly filmed if predictable biography. Determined to live her life her way despite her marriage to publisher George Putnam ( Richard Gere), Earhart also had a close relationship with aviation official Gene Vidal ( Ewan McGregor).
