He would reteam with director John Carpenter on several other projects – including "Escape From New York" and "Big Trouble in Little China" – but Kurt Russell first made his mark with the filmmaker by acting for him as Elvis, with whom Russell had appeared in "It Happened at the World's Fair," in this made-for-ABC 1979 biography.

Russell also married (and later divorced) Season Hubley, who plays Priscilla to his Elvis in this portrait of the triumphs and setbacks of music's "King." Russell's father, Bing, portrays Elvis' father, Vernon, and Ronnie McDowell performs Presley's singing voice.
