Just as he had to master dancing for "Step Up," Channing Tatum had to get comfortable with bare-knuckle brawling for this familiar-feeling but well-acted drama.

He plays a Southerner transplanted to New York, where a con man (Terrence Howard) sees him as the ticket to success for both of them – no matter how many lumps the new protege has to take in the process.

Zulay Henao plays the tale's love interest for director and co-writer Dito Montiel ("A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints"). *** (PG-13 and unrated versions: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)
