'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'

Swedish author Stieg Larsson's mystery story gets a lengthy but effective adaptation, as a man (Sven-Bertil Taube) tries to prove that his niece's vanishing several decades earlier resulted in murder - and that another relative was responsible.

He recruits a couple of amateur sleuths (Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace), and what they discover draws many skeletons out of numerous closets. The film is slated to get an American remake from "Fight Club" director David Fincher. *** (Not rated: AS, N, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)
