'The Hit List'

Many of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s recent starring vehicles have been direct-to-video affairs, and this action tale - which takes some of its cues from the classic thriller "Strangers on a Train" - marks another one for the "Jerry Maguire" Oscar winner.

He plays a supposed assassin who offers to help a troubled man (Cole Hauser) get rid of his problems, or more accurately, the people who are causing them. When those individuals start dying, things only get worse for the embattled man. Jonathan LaPaglia ("The District") also stars. ** (R: P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)
