The next-to-last season includes one of the sitcom's most famous episodes, and one that has gotten renewed attention with the recent death of its writer, David Lloyd. "Chuckles Bites the Dust" finds the newsroom gang engaging in mirth over the passing of the television station's clown mascot, except for Mary (Mary Tyler Moore) – until she gets to the funeral.

In other tales, anchorman Ted Baxter (Ted Knight) marries girlfriend Georgette (Georgia Engel), and Lou Grant (Edward Asner) goes on a date with "Happy Homemaker" Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White). *** (Not rated: AS)
