You can't keep a good movie villain down, especially if he has memorable appliances such as the knife-like fingernails of Freddy Krueger, the fiend of many unfortunate teenagers' dreams.

Jackie Earle Haley ( "Watchmen") inherits the part from Robert Englund in this often graphic - but only moderately effective - reboot of the original thriller, with Rooney Mara (who will star in the Americanization of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") as Freddy's main target.
