Screen newcomer Gabourey Sidibe has earned raves for her work in this highly affecting drama, while co-star Mo'Nique has transformed her previously comedic image by making a big showing on the film award circuit for her supporting role. In the project nominated for six Oscars, Sidibe has the title role as a Harlem teenager nicknamed Precious, who becomes a mother early in life and is pointed toward potential greatness by a caring teacher (Paula Patton).

Sherri Shepherd ("The View") and singers Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz also are in director Lee Daniels' cast. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry are among the picture’s executive producers.
