Joaquin Phoenix wasn't exactly a big help in promoting this movie, as anyone who saw his decidedly bizarre appearance with David Letterman can testify.

However, he's as professional as ever in what he claims was his swan song to acting, playing a photographer who faces the dilemma of having to decide between two appealing women ( Gwyneth Paltrow, Vinessa Shaw).

The drama marks a reteaming of Phoenix and "We Own the Night" director James Gray. Isabella Rossellini also appears. *** (R: AS, P) (Also on Blu-ray)
